I remember receiving an award at school that was presented to me by Steve Cram.  It was probably the highlight of my time at school.  Again, football was the reason he was involved in the ceremony; Steve sat next to our headmaster at Roker Park, and had a agreed to come along to help out.

As someone who had grown up watching Steve win just about every race he entered, he was synonymous with athletics in my mind.  And now he was presenting an award to me.  In the two seconds I shook his hand I get a first impression that left a print in my mind - Steve is simply a nice person.

As a Makem, it’s great to see Steve become Chancellor of my home town University.  I know he’ll do a great job as an ambassador for the University and the city as a whole.
